Its barrel is shorter. Its bell is longer. Its keywork is subtley blunter
than an R13. Its sound is somewhat brighter overall and less stable above
c'''. It is an excellent intermediate student clarinet and in fact has
been adapted by Charles Bay [don't ask] and sold and used as a pro
instrument to some clarinettists playing in professional orchestras. Its
pitch is fine. Many who should know better believe it to be a rejected
R13. It is not. Its debut took place about 35 years ago. Although it has
worn many monickers it has remained unchanged.

I had a Master Model once and then got an R-13. The sound was of the Master
Model was brighter overall and was less stable and shrill above c'''. The
sound of the R-13 is fatter and richer, and has more character. When I was
testing clarinets I tried many R-13's and while they do vary, they are
distinguishable from the Master Model. I believe they are different
clarinets.
