Abe -- Come on!! You know that such an answer is simply the tip of the
larger iceberg. While it is OK for the player to say that he prefers
the Buffet basset horn (nothing wrong with that statement), the real
issue is why he feels that way. What are the specific objective things
that he finds in the Buffet basset horn that cause him to come to that
conclusion? And the answer to THAT question would be very interesting.

One of the problems in dealing with anyone's acceptance or rejection of
a clarinet (any member of the family) is that when asked why they like
this or don't like that, the answers one gets are so very subjective
that there is almost no way either to understand what was said or to
learn from it. Worse, whatever the reasons are, are presumed to be true
for everyone; i.e., the player says, "the xxx clarinet blows more
freely" forgetting to add the words "for me" which are very critical
(if I can understand what "blowing freely" means in the first place).
And then the next thing you hear in some advertisement for clarinet xxx
is the absolute statement that "the xxx clarinet blows more freely than
the yyy clarinet."

God should grant me as I get older an objective, understandable, clear,
unbiased, and articulate description about why person x prefers clarinet
y and not clarinet z. Instead, what I get is a lot of subjective,
unintelligeable, biased, and incomprehensible stuff such as "it plays
better."

"Feh," I say. And "double feh."
