I wrote,
>I'm looking for sheet music for Bernard Herrmann's "Sleigh Ride," from his
score to the 1942 movie, "The Devil and Daniel Webster." "Sleigh Ride,"
which Herrmann wrote for solo clarinet and orchestra, would lend itself
beautifully to an arrangement for clarinet and piano, or clarinet and string
quartet. I have no idea whether or not any arrangement exits. >
Or, for that matter, whether it still exists, after it exits, pursued by a
bear (or not)....
I committed the mortal sin of pro reviewers by assuming I understood what
some vague language in the liner notes meant, instead of looking up the info
on IMDB (Internet Movie Database, http://www.us.imdb.com) -- and, naturally,
assumed wrong. Thanks to Jim O'Briant for the following corrections:
>>Actually, this film was released in 1941, and then re-released under at
least four other titles in an attempt to increase ticket sales. {Herrmann]
won the best film score Oscar in 1941, for this film, but under the title,
"All That Money Can Buy.">>
Thanks also for the information that G. Schirmer may be the Most Likely
Suspect. If nobody knows for sure about a source of the sheet music for
"Sleigh Ride," I shall apply all due diligence to the Library of Congress's
online services (AAAAGGGGHHH!).
