This is not in any way to disparage Patty's comments - hi Patty! - many good
bass players approach the instrument in this way.

An alternate way is to play on a very close tip bass mouthpiece, use
fundamentally the same embouchure, and use the same strength reeds that you
use on Bb.

I'm talking about a tip opening which is 1.60 to say 1.75mm. This requires a
3 1/2 or 4 (Vandoren equivalent). Some bass mouthpieces are as open as 2.00
mm or more, and require a less resistant reed.

Nothing wrong with that, just a different style.
