I knew David Shifrin well in the late 70's, early 80's. He is, among other
things, a consummate chamber musician. I'm sure he was approaching the
Poulenc (and the Schubert) as chamber music, and therefore was maintaining
eye contact with the pianist (and soprano) steadily.

I have seen David face the audience directly in solo type concerts.

In my experience, he has always seemed extremely gracious to his accompanists.

OK, I'm a Shifrin fan......The man has great talent, has worked very hard,
and was extremely kind, encouraging, and supportive of me and my playing when
I really needed it. A real mensch......

And I was lucky enough to sit next to him in an orchestra and hear him play,
many times! .....We should all be so fortunate.......
