Greetings List.
Was lucky enough to catch a recital by the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center on tour in Los Alamos,
New Mexico. WOW!
David Shifrin, clarinet
Ida Kavafian, violin
Peter Wiley, cello
Anne-Marie McDermott, piano
Apparently they also were going to perform in California, and
Oregon....anyone catch the recital?
They performed the Poulenc Clarinet Sonata, Ravel's
Duo Sonata (vln+cello), and "Quartet for the End of Time."
Anne-Marie's touch and aggressiveness on the piano was
amazing, David Shifrin's total ease with the clarinet was
inspiring.
Have one question: During the Poulenc Mr. Shifrin stood
in front of the crook in the piano but almost directly facing the
pianist. It was wonderful for eye contact with the pianist, but it
seemed he was not communicating with the audience much.
(just my impression.) I also recall seeing him stand sideways
on a PBS broadcast of Shepherd on the Rock. Anyone know his
reasoning?
Regards! Lori Lovato
