I just purchased a MD-recorder from Circuit City, $199, $12.99 for 3
mini disks, $4 for adapters for my microphone (already had). I'm using
this for research studying self-evaluation vs. peer- and
instructor-evaluation. It is a wonderful tool and the students who are
participating in the research are awed by the sound quality.

Oh yea. Your sound is only as good as your microphone.

Good Luck!
