Today I blew (barely) into a bass clarinet for the very first time. I
feel very proud of myself. The boy sitting next to me was helping the
girl on the other side with a part in a piece..
He doubles on bass and asked me if I'd like to try it. "Sure," I
said. That mouthpiece is huge.. I blew for a second or two before I got
a wonderful squawk out of it. Maybe I'll even try to play it sometime,
but I think my hands are too small!

Dear Beth

One of my students is an eleven-years old girl, and she is small for her
age. One of her gresat pleasures, when I still taught her in my house, was,
to sit on a chair, have the music she studied for that lesson in front of
hers, and play it on my claribass. She always managed, eventually after I
suggested some adaptations. Thus there is no need not to hope.

Rien (note the correct spelling)
