Aren't mouthpieces made of hard rubber?

I always heard alcohol dries out rubber parts (such as the capstan on a
cassette recorder). Still, it seems like a mouthpiece is such a solid hunk
of stuff that a little surface brittleness wouldn't hurt it. I think we're
worrying too much.
