Today I blew (barely) into a bass clarinet for the very first time. I
feel very proud of myself. The boy sitting next to me was helping the
girl on the other side with a part in a piece..
He doubles on bass and asked me if I'd like to try it. "Sure," I
said. That mouthpiece is huge.. I blew for a second or two before I got
a wonderful squawk out of it. Maybe I'll even try to play it sometime,
but I think my hands are too small!
Hey, quick poll, how many clarinetists out there are left-handed? I am.
How does this affect your playing?
Beth the high school freshman clarinet player "Mi clarinete es muy guapo,
verdad?" (es mi primero an~o de Espan~ol..)
p.s. I'm not really *that* tiny, 5' 3", but bass clarinets are Big Things
to me.

I'm left handed. When I switch hands............., it is very hard to play
;) To me, left handed players have a built-in technique advantage in
respect to whirling around on the upper G#, A, and Bb throat note keys.
Then again, practice is the great equalizer.
Bass Clarinet?? You haven't seen huge then. Try a Contra Alto.
