I tried the shoestring after reading Pino's book soon after it was first
published. It works fine. I played in in rehearsals and concerts, and
sounded fine. I got black shoestring and it almost looked like there was
no ligature. But it looked funny to my buddies in the woodwind section
who went together to buy a Rovner. Since the Rovner works as well, i use
it.
The string lives in my case as a backup.
