I have an Eb mouthpiece with a lay (facing) that's too open. It works
well with a standard length Bb reed, because the end of the reed rests
on the ring of the barrel, and tilts the reed so that the 'effective'
facing is closer.

I found this out by accident.

It came out, and then was interpreted, rather more coarsly than I'd
really intended. I just thought that since it had been suggested:

Clarinet in E flat = Eef(lat)er

Clarinet in B flat = Beef(lat)er

then perhaps:

Clarinet in A flat = Af(lat)er

Clarinet in A natural = An(atur)al

...but I can see it wasn't *very* funny.
