There was a long and bitter thread on this a while back. Let's see if I
can summarize:

Cotton or silk not very abrasive, but the Grand Canyon was dug by water
over a long time.

I will keep swabbing mine. I figure the extra wear from having to clean
the serious gunk off occasionally is saved by the daily mild cleansing.
