Hi all,

My solution to the mildew problem is Alkiwipes - the alchohol 'wipes' you
can buy at a drugstore for almost nothing, and which are ordinarily used
prior to hypodermic injections, etc. A single wipe of the reeds and whatever
case you keep them in keeps them mildew free for some time, and doesn't seem
to have an adverse effect on the reeds. For those of you who teach, swabbing
e.g. a student's reed and mouthpiece prior to checking it won't sterilize
it, I'm sure, but it does confer a fair amount of protection. I always carry
some Alkiwipes in my case,
