I haven't the score to see if it's really there, but it wouldn't surprise
me. At the same time that Weber was composing for Baermann, Spohr was
composing for Hermstedt, and was writing his concertos up there to begin
with. I think one of Spohrs works has a super C within the first two
minutes. Of course, Spohrs works were fine, but he didn't consult his
performer often, and so his stuff is pretty tricky. Hermstedt, instead of
complaining, tackled the music, thinking it a true challenged, and
altissimoed his brains out day after day so he could consistently hit the
notes Spohr wanted.

Unfortunately, I cannot recall offhand what kind of clarinet Hermstedt
played. I do know that Baermann played a Ten key model.
