I went to the Evanston Public library yesterday. I happened across David
Pino's excellent book, "The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" published in
1980, by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York.
It has in my humble opinion, an excellent discussion on mouthpieces,
mouthpiece selection, mouthpiece facings, and mouthpiece care. All written in
easy to understand English. I recommend this text to anyone who is searching
for the type of info that Dee Hays enumerated in a recent post.
Not all information has to be on the internet........I still like a book I
can hold in my hand, take in the car with me, etc.
The only thing missing, from what Dee suggested, is a "catalog" of
brands/models of mouthpieces, their characteristics, tendencies, price, etc.
This project is beyond my budget and time constraints. It also seems to be a
"mine field" waiting for victims to stumble into.
What a great dissertation though.....blind testing of x number of commercial
mouthpieces.......boggles the imagination!
