Many thanks to David Hughes for his French vocabulary on clarinet parts.
Although I'm fluent in French, my fluency came about by living at La Cit=E9
Universitaire in Paris and attending classes a month at a time, once every
year and a half or so, over the course of 15 years at the Alliance
Fran@-----. When one lives at La Cit=E9 one has the privilege (!) of eatin=
g
government subsidized meals, cafeteria style, at La Maison Internationale
so a month in Paris, including round trip plane fare ended up costing me
about $2000. After two or three sessions there my wife decided it was
about time that she enjoy some of the fruits of my fluency, so we planned a
vacation by rented car in the French countryside after my residency at La
Cit@-----. It is with some painful memories of our restaurant meals
that I confess a total ignorance of French words for la belle cuisine.
That's because every time I'd leave the cloistered garth of La Cit=E9 and
have a restaurant meal in town my living expenses would go up by a factor
of between 10 and 50 times. So I never made the effort to learn the words
for la haute cuisine and contented myself with standing in the cafeteria
line and pointing. The most painful memory for me was the time we were
sitting at the very touristy Le Pied du Cochon near Les Halles and I
suggested to her that she try the veal. "It's not organs, is it?" she
asked, suspiciously. "No, no, my love, not organs. It's veal." "Well,
all right, if you say so." Sure enough, the delicacies arrived: kidney,
liver, heart. She has never trusted me since. "Fluency, baloney," she
blurts, with some justification.

Thanks again for the clarinet vocabulary, David.

Oliver
