Perhaps we are trying to go too deeply into the subject. The type of =
information that most people want seems to fall into categories like =
this.

1. The reason for and general effect of short, medium, and long lays =
and what range is covered in each of these categories.
2. The reason for and general effect of open, medium and closed tip =
openings and what range is covered in each of these categories.
3. Recommended reed strength versus tip opening.
4. The reason for and effect of general bore size.
5. Criteria for jazz versus classical versus a middle of the road =
compromise.
6. A listing of the commonly available and generally well thought of =
mouthpieces in a variety of price ranges categorized by their general =
characteristics.

While these may seem to be rather general, these are the types of =
questions most commonly asked by people and as such are good questions =
for a FAQ to address. Most people neither need nor want the details =
that a mouthpiece maker does.

If a person needs to go beyond this, they are perhaps ready to start =
thinking about a custom mouthpiece and working with a maker of such =
mouthpieces.
