I think that's a great idea. (I just auto-delete all messages with "Shadow
Cat" in the content, but that's no fun, is it?) What we need is a special
Off Topic List where we forbid any reference to clarinets. On even-numbered
days, people whose last names begin with letters A-L would post messages of
no possible relevance to *anything* anyone else had written, while people
with last names beginning with M-Z would flame them (extra points given for
pointless and obsolete historical references, such as, "You nattering nabob
of negativism!") for posting off topic. On odd-numbered days, everyone would
switch places. Except, of course, most of us would ignore this protocol, so
that subscribers could witch at each other for disobeying the odd-day,
even-day rule or for talking about clarinets, too.
