Subj: [kl] Inverted Bonade ligs (was: Product WARNING)
Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2000 22:30:50 -0500

I put a patch of tape on the back of the mouthpiece - just the clear
plastic package tape I have around the house. I got into this habit while
trying mouthpieces on approval so I would avoid the sort of scratching of
the mouthpiece that began this thread.

Putting anything on the screw side of the ligature seems to change its
evenness of response for me, so that's a no go.

The screw-front Bonade is a no go for two reasons - 1.) chews up the
front of the reeds from the back and forth motion while tightening the
screws, and 2.) big beard - ouch!!

None of the plastic ligatures, Luyben included, seem to hold the reed
firmly enough, and result in a spread sound for me. The Vandoren Optimum
and the Eddie Daniels Rovner work pretty nicely, though they're twice the
price of the silver plated Bonade, which I like better than the regular
nickel plating.

My $0.02

David
