The writer phrased his question in a way that was semantically ambiguous.
The correct interpretation: he would like to know if obtaining the cane
for reed-making is the most difficult aspect of making reeds. I imagine
your answer is no, given the easy availability of good cane from innumer-
able sources. The original question confused me too for a second.
