Kristen,

As a Clarinetist and Percussionist I enjoy switching, (though I would =
much rather play Buddy Rich's West Side Story than Stars Spangle =
Banner). However, you have to watch out for the mental strain caused =
by having two entirely different disciplines. If you're not careful you =
will be infected with a really strange sense of humor in order to cope =
with it. I'm afraid that there is no cure for this, as many on this =
list have discovered.

The braces back in dinosaur times were wicked. I played with braces -
-percussion. I had a good year of snare and bass drum education and
loved playing the cymbals in the Star Spangled Banner. I was therefore
able to play snares for Haydn's " Royal Fireworks" recently and didn't
have to sit the piece out with the other clarinet. Kind of fun to be
listed on the program under both clarinet and percussion :)
