Subj: [kl] Barrel Replacement for Leblanc Bb & A Concertos
Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2000 00:07:24 -0500

There has been considerable discussion over the last several years regarding
replacing barrels on Buffet R13's to improve various tone and intonation
problems, but I can't recall much having been written about replacement
barrels for Leblanc Concertos.

When I purchased the Leblancs a year or so ago, I had started out to buy
Buffet R13's, but was very surprised to find that the Leblancs played more
easily for me even with the inferior set-up that I was using at the time.
As I mentioned recently, I am now using a 55 year old Goldbeck Mpc., Eddie
Daniels Lig with 3 1/2 V12's. Both horns play fairly well in tune
throughout the registers, but there are some small problems. This has made
me wonder if possibly replacing the barrels might improve what, for me, are
good horns.

Numerous barrel names have been mentioned as sort of standard Buffet
replacements. What recommendations do any of you listers have for Leblanc
barrel replacements? I suspect that replacement barrels to correct Buffet
"problems" would probably not be appropriate for Leblancs since my Leblancs
do not have the Buffet tone and intonation problems that I see discussed on
the list.

Thanks for any help that may be forthcoming, and please lets not start a
thread comparing Buffets and Leblancs.
