I used something like that, plus changes of embouchure, airpressure, etc

You tell me.

I did (near) chromatics going up, smears coming down. You have to find
something that sounds convincing.

Well, again, I never asked Berio, and so he never told me. Sometimes I
don't ask composers these things *in case* they tell me:-) But I
imagined it was a very fast chromatic up and down (I assumed, faster
than the previous 32nds), slowing after 7", and then ritardando, and
then staccato.

But that's just what's marked, no?

I know. I played the whole passage, but especially the multiphonics,
very quietly.

I sort of hoped that he might decide to scrap the whole idea, and
replace it with something else. Of course, he still may.
