Also, a great suggestion I got from a pro Eb player who once frequented
this list was to use the Steuer reeds, available from Muncy (and maybe
elsewhere. Not quite as wide as Bb reeds, not quite as narrow as Eb
reeds...*just right* ;-) the vamp is also cut a little shorter, so it
matches up to the facing of many Eb mpcs pretty nicely. You still have to
cut the bottom 2-3 mm off the reed, and the Steuers are tres excpensif,
but it worked for me in an Eb emergency (Ravel Piano Concerto, colleague
on maternity leave!)
