Hiya Kathleen,

I play Eb clarinet almost as much as I play Bb/A clarinet. Bought my 1965
Selmer Series 9 my senior year in high school 2.5 years ago. And now I'm
having Stephen Fox make me a new one starting in the Summer. :-)

This section is to the question about reed strength:

It's all relative to your two mouthpieces. My current Kaspar Bb requires
3.5's in blue box Vandorens. My old Kaspar Bb required V-12 4.5's or Morré
2.5's And my Eb Greg Smith requires V-12 3.5's. So you just have to find
the strength that works for the Eb mouthpiece you have.
Also, use Bb reeds and cut off 2-3mm off the butt. Eb reeds are too narrow
for most Eb mouthpieces. Bb reeds make the high notes easier to get and
fill out the sound better.

For the strength of the Eb reeds (and, take this with a grain of salt, I'm a
college student, and this is just what works for me, but it is by no means
written in stone) I use the same brand Bb reeds on my Eb only a 1/2 size
stronger....so the horn sounds fuller and not SO irritating. This system has
worker quite well for me!

If there is anyone who would like to chat about the Eb, I would love to.
There don't seam to be that many people that actually LIKE the instrument.
It's grown on me...ALOT.
