Just an editorial comment here. I walked back into my
apartment after an afternoon of shopping today, and Weber's
clarinet quintet was on the radio. Compared to Mozart and
Brahms, it comes in a distant third in my mind, but zow!
"Who IS this clarinet player?!" I asked myself. So rather
than running downstairs to grab my clothes out of the laundry
room, I sat back & enjoyed the rest of the recording. Finally
it came to an end, and who's the player? Jon Manasse. No won-
der.

I've never had much affection for the Weber quintet, but
Manasse really brought the piece alive, and I find myself
tempted to expend some of my extremely limited MBA student
budget to go out & find that recording. We hear all about
the Stoltzmans, Druckers, and Danielses, but here's an Amer-
can clarinet artist who ought to be getting a lot more press.

Are you with me?
