I agree with you about the subjectivity. That's actually one reason why
quantification is so important. Most of us at some point need to replace a
damaged or "vintage" mouthpiece, or a borrowed mouthpiece, that has worked
well for us. For those of us not ready to pop for a custom mouthpiece, being
able to narrow down the commercially available choices in advance, by
comparing the measurements to those of the mouthpiece we want to replace,
would really help. Even though the precise measurements of different
examples within a brand and model name will vary, we'd save time, trouble and
postage by knowing in advance which brands and models compare well with the
old one and which to avoid.
