High C to Db

Tony Pay mentioned in one his posts the old clarinet system fingering
for high C to Db.
Since the high C is played with the speaker key, thumb closed and the
second finger of the Left hand, one just raises the Left hand finger and
you get a smooth transition to high Db.

It is possible to get almost a similar result on the Boehm clarinet.
One plays the high C, and instead of opening the first two right keys
for D, one only opens the second one up.
This is usually designated as key #8.
One has to be careful not to press down on down on the first key, the
side Bb.
In order to make this easier to do, I added a piece of cork on the
touchpiece of key #8 and it's more comfortable to do.
There are many passages that can played that way :the beginning of The
Shepherd on the Rock by Schubert. Also the slow passage at the beginning
of the Nielson Concerto.

Its worth a try!
