All the instrumental teachers in our district order Yamaha as a first choice
in bass clarinets and saxes of all sizes. But lately the back-order time at
the factory has been long enough to send at least two bass orders back to
Selmer. The last Yamaha I ordered for the district, ordered in August 1998,
ended up being promised by the supplier for December 1999 because of factory
delays. We cancelled the order. Saxes are routinely taking six months.

This seems too long to wait for mass-produced instruments. I know you could
wait years for a Haines or Powell flute or a Louree oboe, but we're not
talkng here about hand finished instruments, I don't think. We're ordering
student instruments, not pro lines, after all. Maybe some of the listers who
are involved in instrument sales have some further insight into this. Bill?
