>>Dear Rien,

Oh, ok:)... I am still just a high school student, without much knowledge of
types of music- I have never been well taught in music theory/history. I
just recalled that under the title of the arrangement I played in junior
high school stated "four Israeli folk songs (or dances...)". Talking about
Israeli music reminded me of it, and I remembered it- I also wondered how
many other people had actually heard of it (wasn't sure if it was anything
more than a beginner band piece, though at the time it seemed quite
difficult). Thank you for correcting me!:)

Dear Michael

First of all: I do not think Rikudm is a beginner band piece. It is a piece
written for amateur windbands that are above intermediate level, but not
top-of-the-bill. Thus your remark that "it seemed quite difficult" is not
astonishing.

As to your first remark: of course it is not a shame, not to know everything
of every type of music. And at your age of course you couldn't even. But
also my remark about the piece being non-Israelian did not mean you should
not enjoy it. It is like reading a beautiful poem in a very good
translation. And also, in which department someone or some work of art
should be located is not very important. When Weber composed his music
nobody knew it was "romantic", and though Schubert is generally considered
one of the greatest romanticists, Beethoven also wrote works that I would
consider "Romantic", but if had I said so to my grandfather, who considered
him the greatest of the classical style, he would almost have cursed me for
blasphemy.

So enjoy music, play it as much as you can, and in all styles you like,
without wondering about what etiquette should be stuck onto it, and listen
to the music you like, and be happy.

Rien
