road to hear the most devoutly cherished, the most highly eulogized, the
rarest Rock Group extant on this or any other planet. Much like the old New
Yorker magazine cartoon whereby the snotty little kid being encouraged by his
parents to eat his dinner, says, "I say its broccoli and I say to hell with
it!" >

This is awful of me (and the Relevancy Police will probably cite me for Off
Topic Offense), but I have to say it in order to renew my Pedantry
Certificate for this year: The veg in question was spinach. An uncle gave
my family a book of _New Yorker_ cartoons when I was a kid. My father, who
loathes spinach, loves that cartoon. He used to quote it while staring
around the dinner table in theatrical disgust, when my mother would fix
spinach as a treat for the rest of us. She would give him the leftover
broccoli or zucchini or whatever from the previous night and dutifully
admonish him, "Larry, please don't say that word in front of the kids." We
kids, of course, would snicker and repeat our lines of this script:

Younger Brother, innocently: "What word?"

Me: "Spinach? Hell, no, it wasn't spinach."

Brother: "What the hell was it?"

Mom: "Both of you stop that right now!"

Dad (grinning wickedly): "Hell, yes. Stop that right now!"

That was many years before my husband and I, as newlyweds, went
skeet-shooting with my old rock LP records as the targets. We took turns
sailing them up like Frisbees. Sheesh, if only I'd kept them, maybe I could
sell them on eBay for enough spinach to pay for a bass clarinet!
