Walter, you really are cranky this morning. On one hand
I agree with what you said, but on the other hand, if
all one has is a B-flat clarinet (or a tenor sax for
that matter), then enjoy yourself and play the
K. 581 any way you can manage it.

I once was in England and a town band in the midlands
was playing the Mozart overture to Marriage of Figaro.
At first I was shocked, but then everyone was so
enoying the music that I realized that they were doing
the rightest possible thing for what they had and for
the audience that made the effort to come and listen.
Any other attitude carries with it an elitist view
that doesn't belong in music. (Mind you, this is
from the guy who chewed out the first clarinet player
at the Metropolitan Opera for playing Parto, parto on
a clarinet that did not have a low D!)
