The secret to avoiding cracked clarinets of any make is buy used ones that
never did in the first place! Almost all cracks occur in the first year of
use. Selmers are no worse than the rest. Those beautiful Recitals are
extra fat on the outside and small on the inside. I can easilly imagine
that that would be a fine rescipe for cracking.

Shitty quality control in mouthpiece manufacture is a general plague. I've
recently tried some big name mouthpieces that were a disgrace. Some were
utterly unplayable. I, personally, have never played a Selmer MP that I
liked. On the other hand, I have played quite happily on Selmer clarinets
for over 30 years.

Subject: [kl] Selmer clarinet & mouthpiece quality

I bought a Selmer Recital, the upper part cracked after 4 weeks, I got a new
one, yesterday, after 4 weeks, a crack in th upper part. I have been
careful,
have played first 15 minutes , than 5 - 10 minutes more any day.
Just fur fun I have tried 4 Selmer Clarinet mouthpieces, the facing length
should be 19 mm, I have measured 12 to 21mm.
OK, I live in Germany and Böhm-Clarinets ar not very popular here, but I
think, the quality of Selmer Clarinets get worse, hopefully not their
guarantee.
The problem (or better challenge) is, I still love the sound of Selmer.

I' m really interested if any of You made similar Selmer -experiences.
