Nikisch was also forward-thinking in other ways. He and the orchestra were
the first to record an entire symphony -- the Beethoven Fifth, committed to
disc in 1912. This recording was reissued on LP in the 1970's, and I have a
copy of it buried away in storage with 3000 other classical LP's.
