From: Victor Freyer <vfreyer@-----.net> Subj: [kl] Highest Bass Clarinet Note :-) Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2000 13:29:18 -0500
Hi All,
Over the weekend I flew to Toronto to try (and fall in love with)
the Selmer Model 33 bass clarinet that most recently was Peter
Stoll's, and formerly David Bourque's and is now mine. (I still
can't believe my good fortune!)
On the return trip, as I happened to be the only passenger in my
part of the airplane, I struck up a conversation with the cabin
attendants who were curious about the case that I had so carefully
stowed overhead.
When they saw what was inside they wanted to hear how it sounded.
How could I refuse? So, somewhere over Lake Ontario I serenaded
them on bass clarinet.
At approximately 32,000 ft (9,750 meters) above sea level, those
were possibly the highest notes ever played on bass clarinet! :-)
(Thanks Peter for a wonderful instrument!)
Regards,
Victor Freyer
