The duration of Moment Musical is circa 1 minute and 50 seconds
so viewers may have heard all of it. It is jazzy but there are no
glissandos.
On the back cover of the notes accompanying
the Swiss Accord CD 200632 (Eisler Chamber Music, Volume 2)
the complete autograph of the work is reproduced - but not clearly.
It was written on 8th January 1947 for
"Mr Donatelli, a very excellent musician and artist".
The autograph is in the Hans Eisler Archive in (East) Berlin
and at the time of this first recording (1989) had not been published.
In exile, Eisler wrote several other chamber works
of interest to clarinetists: 2 Nonets and 2 Sepets,
14 Ways of Describing Rain (fl cl vn va vc pf) op 70
was written for Schoenberg's 70th birthday (1944?)
Nonet No 1 was intented for Steinbecks film of 'The Grapes of Wrath'
Nonet No 2 has a Mexican flavor and was written for the documentary
'The Forgotten Village' by Kline and Steinbeck.
Septet No 1 was written for 'A Child Went Forth'
Septet No 2 was based on sketches for Charlie Chaplin's film 'The Circus'
which were not used after the composer was called before the
Un-American Commission (1947)
The most approachable technically is Septet No 1 (1940)
"Variations on American Children's Songs" (fl/pic cl bn 2vn va vc)
published by Verlag Neue Musik, East Berlin, GDR, 1958, reprinted 1975
