First: For any of the fine adjustment methods work the reed must be
right. A reed that is too soft at tip will ghost.
And the reed must be balanced side to side and have the same decay on
both sides (for description see Ridenour's website)

Next step is to have very good breath support.

Then you can begin refining the oral cavity.
Ghost/grunt tones are a sign that the throat/soft palate/tongue are not
in the ideal position.
And the higher note in the clarion, the more sensitive.

The expercise that i have used is the complimentary (same goal from
opposite starting point) version of shouryu's diminuendo approach, which
i just tried and also works.
the instructor who showed me this called the technique 'sneak attacks'.
Finger the note, start the air very slowly, gradually increasing the
speed until the reed vibrates.
as you very slowly increase the airspeed, you may get a grunt. change
the position inside until the note starts directly, not grunt first.
when one note is reliable, go next higher note.

I just tried this. If the reed is not balanced in response, it is all
but impossible to not get a grunt.
with reed unbalanced the grunts begin today at E. with same reed
balanced no grunt until A. Then i got to C by refining
throat/tongue/soft palate.

And when the ghost tones fade into the past, learn ghostless tongue
motion.
Then staccato is much easier.

go for it!
