First of all, most good Oboe players spend long periods of time carving, =
scraping, and sanding their reeds not just to get them to play right but =
also to get two, posibly three that play the same pitch. Then they keep =
them in a little plastic jigger of water clipped on their stands so if =
one fails during concert they hopefully have a quick substitute that =
plays in the same pitch. As for tuning with the Oboe, its probably =
easier for a one armed man to give a bath to an old stray tom cat than =
change the pitch of an Oboe. So anytime I hear somebody playing an Oboe =
with a beautiful tone and pitch, my hats off to 'em cuz theres a lot =
more than just learning the fingering on one of these contraptions.
