The aria is named "Al desio" and it calls for a pair of basset horns,
the second of which has a most difficult and important part. It also
has a separate K. listing (K. 588) from the rest of Figaro. The
aria was added a few years after the opera's premiere at the request
of the woman who was singing Susanna. It is extremely rare, and until
that Met production, I had never seen the aria in context although I
played it many times.
