The key you describe (an articulated C#/G#) with the tone hole through the
tenon, a ring covering the ring finger, left hand, and an extra key between
the first and second finger of the right hand is one of a group of
"advanced" extras available on professional level horns. (Also available
is a left little finger G#/Eb key and a low Eb/Bb key at the bottom of the
horn.)

When I bought my Selmer-Paris Series 9* set (in 1961), the art. C#/G# and
alt. G#/Eb keys added about $150 to the cost of a set, Bb & A, bringing the
cost to just over $1200! I opted for the C#/G# key, particularly, because
I've always had a weak left little finger, and my C-C# and G-G# trills
sound like mush. On the other hand, being able to trill with the index
finger, right hand, works out very nice. I also had the left hand G#/Eb
key, to prevent having to work around that fingering. I didn't opt for the
low Eb/Bb key, because I left it made the horn play stuffy.

I'm **assuming** that this option is available on other pro line horns, and
that what you have was probably a special order at some point.
