Subj: [kl] A Little More on Don Byron

Don Byron seems to be a bit of a musical chameleon. I heard him live here
in Dallas this fall where he played a wonderful set of Ellington, and
some of his hopping Raymond Scott interpretations.

I believe he is the musical director of The Next Wave Festival at
Brooklyn Academy of Music. His CD's have certainly run the gamut (as may
have been alluded to by previous posts.) From his Klezmer album of the
music of Mickey Katz to the Raymond Scott tunes on "Bug Music." While I
appreciate your disappointment if you were expecting an evening of
klezmer and got a bunch of squonky jazz, I have to say that I like the
fact that the man is willing to explore some different sounds and get the
instrument out into people's consciousness.

While obviously everyone on this list is passionate about the clarinet, I
think a lot of the rest of the public may be wondering why we're playing
that weirdo black sax that no one plays anymore.

Best to all on the list!

Gil Guerrero
