The thing is, it's all just people's *opinions*, isn't it?

I mentioned here before that you can't *do anything* with people's
opinions. You can't argue with them, because they don't constitute an
argument. And they're not generative, in the sense of leading to new
insights.

Opinions are what you get when you ask people what they think about
something -- they're what people come up with mostly when they weren't
thinking about that something before, but now want, for various reasons,
to answer the question.

I'd say that, though there are advantages too, one of the disadvantages
of running (for example) an orchestra democratically is that some people
think we ought to find out *what everyone thinks* about some issue. And
because some people haven't ever thought about that issue, because it
wasn't real to them, what we get is their ******* opinions, which we
should never have had to take into account in the first place.

Actually, if it actually interests you to find out people's opinions,
you should probably do it late at night, with a bottle of whiskey. That
way, you can sort out all the world's problems as well.

And you have less chance of taking the answers seriously the next day.

I hope this mooted FAQ won't consist of people's opinions, however well
edited.

I certainly shan't contribute *my* opinions.

Facts are another thing.
