Commiserations on the command performance. Maybe Scott Joplin could brighten
things up a bit. Edward B. Marks Music Co., distributed by Hal Leonard,
publishes "Scott Joplin Ragtime Classics" for Bb clarinet and piano, arranged
by Marcel G. Frank. (Contents: "The Entertainer," "Scott Joplin's New Rag,"
"The Easy Winners," "Pleasant Moments" and "The Cascades.") For some reason,
"The Cascades" strikes me as peculiarly appropriate for a roomful of Borg
lawyers coming off the Y2K frolic and detour....) These pieces are all
brief, accessible to an audience and fun for the musicians. An
intermediate-level student with a decent sense of rhythm can play the piano
parts.

>(Oh -- and it gets worse. MUCH worse. There's another lawyer here who
sings soprano in her church, and thinks that it'd be great fun to try
Schubert's "Shepherd on a Rock" in front of all of all of our co-workers. She
does not sing as well as the piano player plays. I'm trying to dissuade this
one . . . )>

Maybe you should introduce her to the performance concepts of John Cage.

Asked my dentist if his office expected any Y2K problems. He said, "We don't
use computers. We use brains."
