Everybody's top ten is moderately similar. One name
that gets failed to mention is:

#1 of ALL TIME - including period instruments

CHARLES NEIDICH

How could he be overlooked? He can and has played
everything on both modern and period instruments. He
is a musician first. He has technique out the ying
yang. He's a smart, scholarly guy. The list goes on.
In my opinion, nobody beats him as an overall
package, whether or not you like his sound, phrasing,
musical ideas, interpretations, etc. Neidich is in a
class by himself and should be given more credit. He
would make Baermann, Stadler, Hermstedt, Langenus,
Berr, Bonade, McLane, Wright, Marcellus, and all
players alive shake in their boots in a cutting
contest. There is no reading between the lines here,
he's the man! This is not to say that the
aforementioned players were/are not great. Just not
Neidich great.
