<< Can anyone offer advice from experience on cleaning the outside of a
metal Lablanc contrabass clarinet? There are smudge-like marks on it that
look like they should easily clean, yet they do not. We have tried light
scrubbing as well as chemical polishing cloths. Nothing has worked. >>

Try Happich "Simichrome Polish" which is actually manufactured in Germany and
imported to the US by Competition Chemicals in Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126. It's
used primarily to polish alloy wheels in the US, but several folks on the
list suggested it for clarinets -- espcially the Leblanc contras. I've found
it at hardware stores that carry hardware for home restorations and auto
parts stores.
