This has been an interesting exercise. For those who missed the other
round, I heard Danzi's Concertante for Flute & Clarinet with Orchestra, Op.
41, on public radio, and loved it. I ordered the CD that they were playing
(James Galway, Sabine Meyer,Faerber, Wurttembergishes Kammerorchester,
BMG09026-61976-2) and found an even more interesting piece, labled Fantasia
for Clarinet & Orchestra on a Theme "La ci darem la mano".

I couldn't find a reference to it. Couldn't get any info initially on
Klarinet. Went back into the archives and found, I think, two other
instances where people came on the piece in exactly the same way with the
same results. (I ran some of the original participants down, but they had
no luck.) Being somewhat determined, I started my own search. And I
finally managed to get some results. (A huge thank you goes to David
Blumberg (music@-----.com) for pointing out that Fantasia wasn't the
title, and stopping my going round in a circle.)

One person in the previous search suggested that Meyer owned the only
version of it, and intended to write to her. This, I found was wrong.

The Concert Pieces (there are 3) were published in the early 1800s. The
mms apparently is titled Konzertstucke. They were, however, originally
published under the title Potpourri for Clarinet. The first, in Bb, was
published by Breitkopf & Hartel as Danzi's opus 45. The second & third by
N. Simrock of Bonn, no opus nos.

The first, at least as far as clarinet and piano reduction, is not
currently in print. (I didn't research B&H for the orchestra set's
availability.)

The second (the Fantasia on the Galway/Meyer CD) and third are available as
Concert Piece No. # for Clarinet and Piano, published by Musica Rara, and
available from luybenmusic.com. (Very fast delivery.) Musica Rara also
has both published as clarinet quintets. The version for clarinet and
chamber orchestra is available, published by Verlag, from
sheetmusicplus.com. (A bit slow delivery, but they came from Germany.)
JWPepper.com also lists both Concert Pieces as available for clarinet &
piano reduction.

On the CD is the (Symphonia) Concertante for Flute & Clarinet with
Orchestra, Op. 41. The Edition Kunzelmann verion is available from
JWPepper.com as cl/fl/pn. They also list the Concertante as cl+str
quartet. The Peters publication from the original score for clar., flute,
& chamber orchestra (1 flute, 2 oboe, 2 bsn, 2 horns, strings) is available
from sheetmusicplus.com.

Also, by the same composer is the Sonata in Bb Major for Clarinet & Piano.
The Schott publication is available from sheetmusic.com. Luybenmusic.com
has Schott, Masters Music Publications, Inc. (Kalmas), or SIM <?>.
JWPepper.com has editions from MMP, Warner Bros. & Presser.

A CD containing all three Potpourri, the Concertante, Op 41, & The
Concertino for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Orchestra in Bb, Op. 47 is available
with Eduard Brunner, clarinet, Klaus Thunemann, bassoon, Aurele Nicolet,
flute, with two different chamber orchestras on Tudor 799.

I found only one commercial recording of the Sonata. It's Charles Neidich,
clarinet, Robert Levin, pianoforte. Sony Classical SK64302. I don't care
for this, because he's playing a period clarinet, c 1810. I know that the
version he plays is NOT the MMP version, because there are some very
strange notes in it that -- at least, to me -- don't fit with the rest of
the work or with other of Danzi's work. MMP alleges that it's edition is
based on a first print in the Royal Conservatoire of Music in Brussels,
with revisions necessary "as the print had several mistakes. Printing
errors were corrected ...". Thanks to Michael Bryant for a tape recorded
in 1975 at ICC. This appears to match the MMP edition, at first glance.

I hope this information helps some that were interested in these works.
(For those of you who I have bored with this, I appologize. <g>)
