Klarinet Archive - Posting 000689.txt from 1999/12
From: "Tim Roberts" <timr@-----.com> Subj: [kl] FAQ? Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 19:04:18 -0500
Dan Leeson's post of today brings up a question in my mind.
Unlike many e-mail lists and newsgroups, this list has never (to the best of my
knowledge) had a FAQ: a list of frequently asked questions with answers,
automatically sent to new members with a periodic reminder on the list. Given
the seemingly dramatic increase in new members of late, I wonder if it would be
a good idea to start thinking about this.
The kind of questions which could be deflected to a FAQ would be:
1. What is the best clarinet/mouthpiece/reed/ligature/pad/swab/beer?
2. Should I oil my clarinet? How?
3. How old is my R-13?
4. What is the best recording of X?
5. Is plastic better than wood?
6. Why are clarinets in so many keys?
7. Where can I find out about composer Y?
8. How can I adjust my own reeds?
9. What is double tonguing?
10. What is circular breathing?
11. Is marching band the greatest thing on earth? (Note: this is a joke...)
Many of these questions can be answered with a short set of web links. Some
would require just a few sentences (for example, "everyone is different, try
for yourself").
Whaddya think? Major unmet need, or an idea ahead of its time?
