OK, how about:
Alexander Goehr,
Paraphrase on the Dramatic Madrigal 'Il Combattimento di Tancredi e
Clorinda' by Claudio Monteverdi, for solo clarinet in Bb.
(Schott & Co.)
I always enjoyed playing this piece, which was written to be played by
Alan Hacker on the set of the Monteverdi madrigal in the Edinburgh
Festival, after a performance of same by the Music Theatre Ensemble,
directed by Goehr.
There are quite a lot of interesting discoveries to be made by an
assiduous student of this piece. It's also interesting to get to know
the Monteverdi if you don't already: obviously this is almost essential
to do the work justice.
I'd be willing to give you some pointers if you get stuck:-)
BTW, I don't think the tagline my software has thrown up is particularly
apposite in this case.
