Dear klarinetters,
I have recently been given a Besson "Westminister" (Bb) clarinet with the
suggestion that it might be a useful student instrument.
It is seems similar to the older mid-range Boosey clarinets, all wood with
metal-lined tenons on joints but no metal ring on the end of the bell.
It's in very good condition.
It plays beautifully - very well in tune over whole range, with no stuffy
throat notes.
It seems to be a much better instrument than modern "student' models.
It is stamped "made in England" with serial no. is 213364.
My guess is that it's probably more than 30 years old because I don't think
Besson has made wind instruments for at least 30 years.
I have not been able to find any information on www so I wonder whether any
instruments of any type are still being produced with the Besson label.
I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me anything about this instrument
(and/or the fate of Besson & co.).
Thanks in anticipation,
Tim Shaw.
